
All summer the 26-year-old has taken an exemplary approach despite being highly interested in signing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Brendan Rodgers has reported a player fully applied in training and Maguire has featured in all three friendlies since returning back from holiday. He was given an extended break having played for England in the Nations League finals.
Solskjaer made Maguire his No 1 defensive target and ideally wanted his transfer finalised last week so he could be incorporated into United’s new style of play.
United executive chairman Ed Woodward has been negotiating with Leicester sporting director Jon Rudkin and talks are ongoing.
Leicester have turned down two bids, the second approaching £70million, with owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha wanting a world record fee for a defender. Leicester are holding out for more than the £75m it took for Liverpool to sign Virgil Van Dijk.
Manchester City were also keen on Maguire but were put off by the £90m fee proposed in early June.
Harry Maguire has called in sick to miss training at Leicester on Monday as talks over a prospective move to Manchester United continue.
The England defender telephoned his club in the morning and spoke to the team doctor, who agreed Maguire could spend the day resting.
It is the first session Maguire will miss in pre-season, and will doubtless raise suspicions a move to United could be imminent. But Leicester insist no deal has been agreed.
