24-year-old Air Force officer receives double promotion for returning lost N14.7m

Bashir Umar was decorated as a Corporal by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar [NAF] The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has granted double promotion to Bashir Umar, a former aircraftman, who found and returned the lost sum of €37,000 (N14.7 million) to its owner. While on a routine patrol with some of his colleagues on July 16, 2019, Umar, a member of the NAF Mobile Air Defence Team, found the money in a parcel at the Hajj Camp Market in Kano. The 24-year-old officer called the phone number on the parcel and eventually handed over the money back to its owner, identified as Alhaji Ahmad. His action attracted the attention of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, and President Muhammadu Buhari who both commended him for his integrity. During a decoration and award ceremony on Thursday, July 25, Umar was promoted two steps forward, skipping the rank of Lance Corporal, to be decorated as a Corporal. 2 Dead As 100-Year-Old Building Collapses In Mumbai, 40 Feared Trapped

Dongri building collapse: Teams of the NDRF have reached the site in Mumbai for rescue operations MUMBAI: Two people were killed and over 40 people were feared trapped after a 100-year-old four-storey building collapsed in south Mumbai's crowded Dongri neighbourhood around 11:40 am today. Five have been rescued. Three large teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are at the site, looking for survivors . The area, full of dilapidated buildings on narrow lanes, was also flooded in heavy rain in the past weeks. Breaking : Airpeace Boeing 737 Drops Its Landing Gear 30ft Shortly Before Landing In Lagos

Tragedy was averted on Tuesday as a Boeing 737 aircraft, belonging to Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace airline, crash landed at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. According to reports, the aircraft, which lost its landing gear 30 ft before landing in Lagos, was said to have crash landed on the runway. This is coming a month today after an Air Peace Boeing 737-500 aircraft, flying from Abuja to Port Hartcourt, overshot the runway during heavy rainfall at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in Rivers State, before coming to a rest in soft mud.
